The full life of an invitation, and where the seat limit actually bites.
The life of an invitation
It is issued
Against an email address. The raw link value is returned exactly once; the invitation list never shows it.
It is live
Until it expires. Inviting the same address again kills the previous link at that moment. Resending mints both a new token and a new clock.
It is consumed
On acceptance. An account is created, or an existing account gains a membership — and a seat is taken.
Or it ends
By expiry or revocation. A consumed, expired or revoked link all answer the same way; but a token that never existed answers "not found".
Seats
The seat limit is enforced at the invitation. When it is full, the next invitation is refused — nobody is dropped out of the system.
With no limit set, there is no limit. And lowering one later leaves existing members exactly where they are.
A disabled account does not come back through this door
If an account has been disabled, re-inviting it does not bring it back. Disabled means every door is closed, not only direct sign-in.
Re-enable the account first.
