The FP&A studio
Budgets, variance and scenarios — none of which move the actuals.
A budget never changes reality
Importing a budget moves no actual figure, no ratio, and nothing the assistant reads.
That is the only reason a budget can be imported and revised repeatedly without worrying about damaging the financial reporting.
The variance table
The variance table puts budget and actuals side by side, computes the difference and the percentage, and flags where a threshold was crossed.
Where one side is missing — no budget imported, or an actual not yet recorded — that row stays empty rather than zero.
Notes and scenarios
A note written against an account and a period attaches to that pair and survives re-importing the budget. If the figure underneath has changed, that drift is visible — so you can tell which version your explanation was about.
Scenarios are created and edited, and the projection is computed from them without writing anything into the real data. Where the base a projection needs is absent, the result is empty and says why.
